Sue and I have been experimenting producing Apple Pie “Moonshine”.
Well, it’s not real “moonshine” of course, but it’s one heck of a cocktail. We found some recipes on-line, and modified to our taste.
The recipe below is actually a combination of two we both enjoyed. Maybe you will too……
Apple Pie Moonshine
4 to 6 cinnamon sticks (vary with cinnamon flavor preference)
3 whole cloves (grind well before adding)
Small pinch of nutmeg (don’t over do it)
1/2 gallon of apple cider (we used Zeiglers Apple Old Fashioned Cider)
1/2 gallon of apple juice (we used MOTTS 100% Natural Juice, no sugar added)
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
2 1/2 – 3 cups vanilla vodka (Smirnoff Vanilla)
2 1/2 – 3 cups high proof grain alcohol, like Everclear
Vary the amount of alcohol to your preference
Directions
Step 1: To make this apple pie recipe, begin by mixing the first seven ingredients in a large stainless steel stock pot (5.5 quarts or larger) and bring to a boil, while stirring the mixture often.
Step 2: Reduce heat and simmer for 20 to 30 minutes, and stir often.
Step 3: Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.
Step 4: Once completely cooled add the liquors and stir well. Caution, never add alcohol near an open flame.
Step 5: When you’re ready to bottle, stir again, pour into bottles using cheese cloth as a filter and seal tightly.
Step 6: Refrigerate for a day or two, as this Apple Pie mellows with time.
Step 7: Serve the Apple Pie COLD….
